Douglas - 2025 Raw Coated Fleece

$185.00

Douglas is a 6 year old Merino ram originally bred by Mendenhall Wool Farms out of California. I purchased him from Fat Turkey Farm this last year as a part of my long range plan to add natural color back into my flock.

Douglas is a creature of many comforts and that included regular naps in his hay this last year - a bunch of which managed to work it’s way under his coat along the edges. I skirted off as much as I dared, but at risk of losing the majority of the fleece, I’m offering the best of the best of his clip with the buyer’s understanding that it is not flawless. There’s 4 pounds here, with a 2.5” staple. Douglas grows a superfine fleece and the pictures don’t do it justice. The fiber is black - like a new pair of black denim jeans, black. There’s a patch or two of some lighter gray in the bag but everything else is black. The first picture and the picture of the washed lock are probably closest to his overall color.

The pictures show the fleece, along with a lock against a ruler and a close up of one of his super fine crimp locks. The 4th picture is probably the worst of the VM, but the wool pulls apart easily here and this will absolutely clean up with a set of combs.
