Siggy - 2025 Coated Raw Fleece
Siggy is a 2 year old Debouillet ram, purchased from the Jones Ranch in 2023. His 2025 fleece weighs at a 6.5lb skirted weight and has a 3.75” staple length. He tested at 19.9 micron in 2024, and he’s easily on par with my other 20 micron sheep. Siggy produced the heaviest fleece in my flock overall, but he’s a big dude so I’m not surprised.
Pictures show the fleece, a representative lock with ruler, and a few pictures of the fleece layers in the bag. I didn’t get coats on right away after shearing last year and we had spring windstorms that drove dirt into the fleeces - so a few sheep (including Siggy) got a rinse off before getting their coats back. This is the color difference visible in the photos, but the tips are sound and consistent with the rest of the lock. He’s a fast fleece grower, so there’s about a half inch or better on his staple that looks weird because of the rinse out. This fleece is very clean. I’ve included a picture of the washed lock so you can see that there’s no damage.
Expect about the same lanolin levels as you would with a Merino fleece.
