Sophie is a 2 year old Debouillet ewe, purchased from the Jones Ranch in 2023. Her 2025 fleece weighs at a 4.5lb skirted weight and has a 3” staple length. Sophie tested at 19.9 micron in 2024.
This is a gorgeous fleece. Sophie has shown herself to be a very consistent producer on par with Mae, Molly and Marilyn. Her staple shows even, consistent crimp and the locks are sound from shorn edge to tip.
Pictures show the fleece, a representative lock with ruler, and a pictures of outer side of the fleece. I didn’t get coats on right away after shearing last year and we had spring windstorms that drove dirt into the fleeces - so a few sheep (including Sophie) got a rinse off before getting their coats back. This is the color difference visible in the photos, but the tips are sound and consistent with the rest of the lock. Picture of washed lock also included.
Expect about the same lanolin levels as you would with a Merino fleece.
